Building a Christmas Wooden Village. With Thanksgiving behind us, I'm sure I'm not the only one who is in full Christmas mode. Today we bring you a new tutorial and video to show you how to build your own wooden Christmas village.
Be sure to watch the YouTube video to see how to carve and assemble the village. It's so easy and this can be used not only for Christmas but also for your everyday decor and even for spooky houses for next year's Halloween!
The tool used is an X-Carve. You will start by carving the corner joints with the 90 degree Carbide V. This will give 45 degrees to the corners that form the corners of the houses and roofs. Be sure to set the depth of your carving slightly below the thickness of your material. This keeps the pieces together, but allows you to easily fold everything into place to form the corners.
It is important not to move any of the designs. They are all precisely configured to ensure proper sizing.
Next, you will change the 90 degree bit for a 1/8″ bit. Be sure not to move the wood or the home position of the shaft to ensure the contours are carved exactly where they should be.
Once you're done carving, use a utility knife to carefully cut the tabs to release the pieces of your Christmas village. Sand the pieces and any excess material from the tabs.
Place tape on the outside of the buildings to hold them together during assembly. Apply a thin bead of glue to the joints and then carefully fold them into place. I used wood glue, which dries quickly and provides a strong hold.
Attach the roof with glue and then place the bell tower on the church.
You can paint yourself or even let the children have fun painting the houses. Here are some photos of the results when painting them with warm colors.
